Arguments against social Medias

Arguments against Social Medias
In today’s society, most people are addicted to social media.
We use social media to keep in touch with people far away from us, for example your cousin that lives abroad or a long time friend that moved away. We also use social media to find new friends and relationship. Sounds pretty innocent, right?
But if there is light there is always darkness.
We don’t use social media to just make friend or keep in touch, we compete with each other so we can feel better about ourselves.

You take pictures and put on filters and then upload it on instagram. People will comment that you look beautiful or cute and you will feel good about yourself. And to use social media in that way is pretty much okay. To higher your self esteem is okay as long as you don’t hurt anybody. But there are people who use social media to lower other peoples self esteem, just because they want to get better self esteem, and those it make them feel better? For a second I think, yes.
For instance sometimes if you scroll down on the comment section on a youtube video, you will find that there is people commenting on how ugly or fat the person in the video are, and how they should go kill themselves.

Just because this youtuber is so much better than them, they need to put them down. Not just the FAMOUS youtuber but also normal Joey’s on Instagram, youtube etc.
Over the years many people have committed suicide because of cyber bullying, and a research that National crime victimization survey have done in 2013, 71.5% high school students have been cyber bullied once or twice during a school year.

Cyber bullying can lead to depression and lower self esteem, sometimes the cyber bullying can go to the point where the person being bullied kill themselves. Just to name a famous case in 2012, a girl named Amanda Todd hung herself in her home because of cyber bulling. The story goes like this. She talked to a stranger through social media, that one stranger asked for a picture of her boobs, and somehow he convinced her to do it.
Then this stranger started blackmailing her with the photo. He would leak the photo to her friends if she didn’t give him a “Show”.   But the photo was leaked in the end so she moved a lot of times but she had bad luck. The photo seemed to be haunting her. It appeared everywhere she went and in the end she couldn’t stand it, so she decided to do a video about her story, upload it on youtube and less than a month later she hung herself at home.

And that will lead me to the second thing that makes me think that social media is bad. You can meet a completely random person through social media, and think that this person is a good person. Then it turns out you’ve had bad luck, meeting a psycho or something.
